a new Christmas tradition!

friends! hi! merry Christmas week! I am both thrilled & stunned we made it this far in 2020! woohoo!
we've been in the Christmas prep mode around here, and the baking has begun! I think Mads & I have decided to add a new Christmas tradition to our list and make homemade cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning! we typically have them pre-packaged (and let me tell ya, pillsbury knows how to make some goooood cinnamon buns!), but for funsies, we wanted to practice today in the kitchen and see if they were a possibility for Christmas morning!
making them was NO. JOKE! hahah!! you guys know how I feel about #reallife over here, so I'll put it bluntly, these final ones were on our 4th try annnd they weren't even right! but you know what, a good person in life is one who can rock a mistake & keep living, so here we are...still living and still thriving, after a few cinnamon rolls (failed or not) later!

making this filling was so easy & honestly so pleasing to spread on the dough! it's literally only butter, cinnamon, & brown sugar, and Mads and I think it was the best part!
and okay but look how cute are these guys all lined up and ready for the oven!

while the lil rolls were in the oven (the recipe will be linked at the end!), mads & I whipped up some homemade cream cheese frosting! what's so special about this recipe is that I added some of my very own homemade vanilla that I made with my Mimi earlier this year! I just got it from her a few months ago in a package at school because it takes about 4-5 months to ferment and prepare to be used in baking! such a sweet touch to the recipe!

and finally, yippeee! the taste-testing moment! they were so delicious and filled with happiness! I was definitely pretty proud of them, considering the many mistakes I made in the recipe (yes for the 4th time haah!) I can't wait to make them for Christmas & hopefully get them perfect! you'll have to stay tuned for that but for now, grab your apron and a friend (or sibling) or both & get to bakin! I promise you'll thank me late ;)
blessings this christmas season,
